Just heard about new shark skin design on boat hulls that reduces or eliminates cleaning. Anybody heard of this too? If it really works, whose building boats with this besides the US Government???

It's new technology designed for the medical field that the Navy has some interest in. Nobody is "building boats with this." Not even close to a reality yet.

Re: Shark Skin Hull Keel Cleaner

Shark skin boat hulls are on the horizon

“... Today, the Sharklet* pattern is commercially deployed as a hygienic surface to help inhibit bacterial growth on high-touch, bacteria prone surfaces. It is applied to these areas via adhesive backed skins upon which the pattern is imprinted.

However, installing Sharklet in a marine environment is quite different. There are manufacturing challenges to putting the pattern directly into a boat’s hull, so the company is looking at several options for applying the pattern. Two of these options include moulding the incredibly small pattern directly onto the hull or applying the pattern via a skin of sorts ...”

* Sharklet Technologies is the patent holder (see below)
