Re: small flying insects in our boat

I get mold gnats when my desiccating toilet doesn’t desiccate fast enough. Not the problem that many people make it out to be.

The other name for them is meal moths and yes they come from an infestation in some form of flour or other meal and once there are very hard to get rid of. My mother ended up with them from the bulk food store and after 6 months and many attempted solutions I helped her take every bit of open food out to the garage in the winter to freeze them. All open food from cereal to flour to who remembers what was disposed of and after killing every one we could find inside we were done with them.

Look up clothes - carpet moths. The color (white to buff) and size (1/2 inch) fit your description. They tend to appear in the spring. Here is one article link that has decent pictures and ways to get rid of them.

Re: small flying insects in our boat

Flying insects?! I use old fashioned fly strips. One fly strip keeps the boat clear of flying insects.

Re: small flying insects in our boat

After spending overnight in flooded Mildred Island in the Delta, had thousands of little green insects collected in the interior and exterior surfaces of the boat. Eliminating the interior insects was more difficult than the exterior. Returning to home port heading west at the eastern end of Suisun Bay, the steep five-foot waves created heavy spray over the length of the boat. The green stream on the decks confirmed the bugs' removal.
