Trinidad Hard paints HD VS PRO VS XSR

Hi all.

It’s nearly haulout time for me and time to scrape the bottom to the barrier coat and start a fresh bottom paint job.

I’ve landed on using Trinidad hard paint but now I’m faced with do I go cheap and use HD or 75 @ $299 per gallon Or look at XSR or PRO @ $385-$415 per gallon?

I’m primarily cruising in the tropics.

Thanks

You'll probably get 10 different answers from 10 different people, as it seems everyone has a different opinion about bottom paints.

FWIW, we're about to put on the Trinidad HD, because from my research it seemed decent for a hard paint, and our boatyard requires us to buy paint through them or face a hefty surcharge.

Re: Trinidad Hard paints HD VS PRO VS XSR

Here is the list of biocide for each of the four.
IF copper is all that matters, there is not much difference between 75 and Pro

Trinidad 75: Cuprous Oxide 60.9%
Trinidad HD: BIOCIDE: Cuprous Oxide…53.3%
Trinidad Pro: BIOCIDE: Cuprous Oxide…65%

Trinidad XSR has completely different biocides
Copper Thiocyanate…15%
ECONEA®…6%
Zinc Pyrithione…6%

With copper-based biocides is % of copper the only thing that matters?

I've used Trinidad 75 and MarPro SuperKote Gold in the past and the antifouling performace lasted 5 - 8 years with very little barnacle issues (Gulf Of Mexico coastal waters, year round in water). Near waterline where atmospheric exposure is common, barnacles grew after about 3 years. Down deeper that never got exposed to the atmoshere, only about 10% barnacles (10% of the underwater area had barnacles) that popped off easily during biannual hull scrubbing.
