Water maker / desalinization recommendations for 40' catamaran?

What kind of water maker / desalinization unit are people using & why? Any feedback on the Village Marine LWV160?

Number of people on board may be more relevant than number of hulls?

We are cruising the Caribbean and using a Rainman. We love it and I have done a review and a comparison post to the other "big" names.

The original "why I picked it" post.

Review after 8 months of use!

For our type of cruising it has been fantastic. I've heard people complain about the petrol use, but for our family of 5 we use 4.5L/Week of Petrol.. Its like $10USD/Week in the MOST expensive locations.

First decide whether you want a 12 volt system or a 110 volt system. That will depend on whether you have a genset of some sort.

Re: Water maker / desalinization recommendations for 40' catamaran?

LOA & number of hulls is not really relevant...except it may affect how many guests aboard.

More relavant questions:

Intended use (Weekends, coastal cruising, voyaging...)?

Number of people normally aboard?

Estimated daily water use?

Power/Charging options aboard (solar, genset, wind...and amp/watts ratings of each)?

Water tankage capacity?

Water using appliances (do you just want a daily shower or do you have a washing machine aboard)?

....

I would look at CruiseRO or similar maker. Cruiser built systems use common parts and filters. The big name makers usually have proprietary parts, pumps and filters. And you pay thru the nose for those parts.
You can get more water for less money.

Cruise RO. Great product and great customer service. Rich knows watermakers. I'm currently installing the 30 gph model.
