Which is a major issue trying to run an electric drive on a boat. Startup current can be 7 to 8 times rated so will need some elaborate tricks to get it to operate.

I have only ever used engine driven units onboard but this usually means carrying the unit on deck. The other issue is providing plenty of ventilation if installed below deck. A drive take off of the main engine is also a reasonable compromise if you have the engine room space.

Time for good news. Just today, installed a SR22-36 soft starter. Testing and adjustments complete. I can reliably start a 240V 3HP Alkin 300 bar compressor with a 5.5kW NexGen. Before the soft start, it would spin slowly for 5 seconds, then trip out a 20A breaker.
