Zoom Sails

I'd like to put in a plug for Zoom Sails (https://www.zoomsails.com/). Zoom's loft is located in Sri Lanka and run by Phil Auger, an expat New Zealander with lots of professional sail making, racing and cruising experience.
Last year, Phil built a full-battened main and asymmetrical spinnaker for my Cavalier 32 "Betelgeuse 2" berthed in Nelson NZ.

I am completely happy with both sails; the quality of workmanship is very high, Phil sources and tests in house various brands of cloth and offers several cloth options.

He's very open to your requests about details of construction you want included, and the prices are super competitive. He's quick to reply to your e-mails, the sails arrive well packed and in a short time frame.

I know of 2 other local yachts that have ordered sails from Zoom; all are very happy with the results.

Good on him. It's a competitive market; we wish him well. Glad you like your sails, mate.

Re: Zoom Sails

That name rang a bell with me.

I went back over my correspondence from buying new sails five or so years back. I think, if I am reading things correctly, Phil made my current set of sails, in partnership with Jamie from SVTotem on this site.

Jamie designed them and Phil had them built. I also believed at the time the sails had been made in China, presumably the China Sail Factory. Maybe I was wrong. But the sails have a label on them saying Lyttleton Sails, which I assume was his loft name at the time.

Anyway, long ramble, but the sails have been great and the process was also very smooth, given one of us was in Adelaide, another in NZ (I think) and another on a boat somewhere in Thailand.

Re: Zoom Sails

Another + for Zoom Sails made me a genoa & main for my HR40, delivered February 2022, very happy with price and quality. Was quick as well, received the sails 3.5 weeks after ordering.

Re: Zoom Sails

This is my first post. My sailboat is in the Philippines and I need a new Yankee. I have a quote from Hyde sails. I'd appreciate any feedback on the sail specs.

Newport AP 8.45 Fabric
Cross cut - construction
Voyager Specification
Sauleda UV Protection along leech and foot
Foil luff

Many thanks

You will probably get better assistance if you start a new thread with a suitable title.

Also let people know what sort of boat you are sailing, that is important information too.

Re: Zoom Sails

Why not write an e-mail to Phil at Zoom and get his opinion as a professional sail maker?
And yes, anyone would want to know the boat design and the sail dimensions.

Re: Zoom Sails

I just got back from a cruise with my new Zoom sails. Great service from Phil, high quality sails and he dealt with the mistakes (all on my part) with great service. And fast. Very fast.

Re: Zoom Sails

Hello all;
Another plug from a satisfied customer of Phil at Zoom Sails.
I just received my 3rd sail, a #2 genoa, from Zoom. Phil and I had quite a long correspondence about the dimensions of the sail because the sheets needed to end up in a particular place on the genoa track. We also discussed the cut and the cloth. Phil is extremely helpful and returns e-mails quickly. This sail is a cross-cut Dacron. so I can't comment on exotic cloths or more complex cuts (tri-radial for example).

The sail has perfect shape (I wanted a flat entry), and the sheeting position on the track position is exactly as I specified. I'm 100% satisfied, and the price is very competitive.
