The Capable Cruiser

By Lin and Larry Pardey

Finished this a little while ago. Like Care and feeding of Sailing crew this is a most excellent book! It’s broken into 6 sections: Preparing to go, Choosing the gear to go Cruising, Taking care of your boat as you Cruise, Taking care of yourself and your crew, Seamanship as you Cruise and lastly At Anchor. All extremely well written with lots of detailed explanation for their choices of gear with back up data and people and companies to contact for more information. The last two chapters are EXTREMELY interesting. They detail the loss of 27 boats at Cabo San Lucas on December 6th and 7th, 1982.

Favorite part: I know this sounds grim, but the chapters detailing the hows and whys and lessons learned from the losses at Cabo San Lucas. Everything from chain rode to success stories of boats that survived and why.
