Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

We are kind of in the same boat so to speak, and are insured with Edward William. They will insure just about anything. We have been with them for 5 years, very easy and all done online. No requirement for a survey. Wouldn't like to try and make a claim with them, but fits the needs of having to have that little piece of paper if using a marina.

We know a LOT of people that use them. All our yachts are in great condition, but we got sick of being told all sorts of bulls$&t about why they no Aussie company insure us.

Funny thing is though, mine is a professionally built 1985 ferro that looks just as good as the day it left for its circumnavigation in 1986, yet no one in Australia would touch us even with a survey.
But Club Marine had insured an older timber yacht that I know of that couldn't be left for longer than 2 hours by the owner or it would sink!!

I just laughed and felt a lot better about not giving my hard earned money to them

Catalpa1
Out of curiosity did you buy your insurance through D&G in Australia (reps for Edward Williams) or directly to them in Spain?
How have making payments been?
How long did it take before you received your insurance papers?

Cheers

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

We got ours direct with them on the website. Payments have all gone through well, and more importantly, accurately! All done via email, and my insurance papers were received about 3 or 4 days later.
We haven't had a drama with them, but like I said, I haven't had to make a claim with them.
We know a lot of people with older tri's, cats, and in general just older boats that are in great condition that no australian company would touch even with surveys, and even some commercial vessels.
I've always been of the opinion that is rather deal direct with the company rather than through a third party, but that's just me.

Okay thanks for that.
May I ask what their premiums are?
Cheers

Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

We are 45ft, and have her insured for 3rd party and yacht insured as well. $875 per year. I'm guessing for 3rd party only, it'd be cheaper again.

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Okay thanks. Research so far is coming in at just under $500 for third party only from Australia Brokers.

Ill wait to see what Edward William 3rd party only quote comes in at.

Once I get more precise confirmed I to I will also pass it on.
As I see I am not alone in this position. Anyone else with any info will be well received I'm sure.

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Let us know how you go. One other thing that I should pass on is that a good mate of mine insured his yacht through the Aussie brokers for 2 years, then apparently was told he had to go direct through Edward William to keep his insurance. Not sure why exactly, but in doing that, he's still insured.
Communication with them is always very quick too.

One thing I am sure of, if for any reason they stop insuring our vessels, there will be a massive cruising/liveaboard community moving up and down the east coast chasing the good weather. A real life Waterworld lol

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Just an update.
Edward Williams have still not contacted us back despite phone calls and several emails.
Pantaenius from UK have still not replied. The Australia local branch has and I have a feeling the UK office just flicked our info to them and since they already replied have just left it. I'm not sure so I will contact the UK office by phone as I've emailed and filled their forms twice.
Pantaenius refused to price match topsails quote saying they have a better policy but the 2 policies look very very comparable.
I will update this once everything is finalized and let people know the eventuality.

I went through this 2 years ago and I ended up giving up I just now stay away from any marina that asks most haven't, I'm on a government mooring do no insurance required, but given half the chance I would in a heartbeat

You aren't kidding. You cannot do anything except for reticulation/lawn sprinklers in Australia with out some kind of license. Basic home repairs such as changing a sink faucet or a light switch will void you insurance if done DIY.

I have a few quotes back for third party only. (Some places I called like Hold fast in Darwin on advice from a 2011 thread was a dead end as they no longer do third party only)
So far the two places that have said yes both want an out of water survey. I'm not due to haul out yet and I would like to avoid the hassle and expense of another survey haul out just so we can insure our boat to allow us to be in a marina.
I don't really care about any frills etc as I'm happy to self insure and would not get any if it was not required.

Does anyone know where we can get no hassle third party only insurance without the need for a survey at a fair price? BTW the boat was made in 1986. And I'm happy to have an overseas policy if it will work and is not a drama trying to make payment.

Any help is much appreciated.
Hey Mischief
I have just insured Wee Barkie for 136.00 with Apia, a cool saving of 400.00 under Nautilus from the previous year.

Re: Australia third party only (liability) Insurance without Survey?

Thanks Auscruisertom,
Did you get third party only from them? I cannot seem to find it on their website.
Did you have to get a survey?
What kind of boat did you insure?
Thank you
