Re: Boat US, Liability Only?

A recent issue of their magazine talked about liability only coverage which surprised me. I was not sure they offered it. The issue with liability is wreck removal. So basically most companies want to be sure your boat is sound and won't sink and most will require a survey for wreck removal.

I had progressive for a few year liability only, but they were having problems with boats sinking they had insured and marine operators after them. They are a big company so can handle it, but I believe their liability only rates have gone up by like 4x in last few years. I had been paying $100 a year for $300,000 in coverage and $10,000 medical payments.

My next boat is "on paper" 25'8" to fall under my homeowners. If i hit something hard enough to do serious damage their won't be much left to measure.

Re: Boat US, Liability Only?

NO insurance company wants to pay and they ALL will back out if there is any chance. The whole insurance game is to get as much as you can and give out as little as possible. Many will not pay out regardless unless they are sued. An industry engineered, defended, and protected by lawyers. What do you expect?

Boat US stinks, they wanted $1100 to cover our 15' whaler, progressive for exactly same coverage was $150. A quote on our new cat was 5700 year and for same coverage with pantanius was 2900 and novarmarine 2200. All same levels of coverage yet Nova had lowest deductible. Boat us was only competitive if I left fl during hurricane season which is dumb as havent more boats been destroyed in the NE and Tx/ La than Florida in the last 20 years from hurricanes?
Boatguy does your ho policy cover.you offshore or in other countries?
