Buyer Beware

Of course we all know this.

I bought the Deluxe Bosuns Chair;

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ker-48966.html

From;

boat4us | eBay

and after looking at the WM site about the Rocna I noticed;

Product Recalls R Bosun Chair Recall

They call it Professional but the model number is the same.

Oh well.

I keep learning lessons over again.

Re: Buyer Beware

Have you tried contacting West Marine? You may be able to switch it out.

I hope you guys are not recommending that he defraud West Marine by taking advantage of their return policy-we all have to pay for for their loss eventually.

Re: Buyer Beware

That's not defrauding anyone. Second hand or not, they carried the product, they should warranty it regardless of its the original owner imo.

Re: Buyer Beware

Um, I work @ WM, so no, I was not encouraging fraud.

WM's corporate policy is to replace recalled items, period.

Recalls are an exception to our normal refund policy, and we get reimbursed by the mfr. And for them, the recall is cheaper than a personal injury lawsuit

Re: Buyer Beware

Sorry guys, I didn't realize that the chair was marketed under a West Marine label. If it was, I agree that that is an appropriate place to return it.

This is in contrast to the WMP Rocna recall--if you bought a Rocna on ebay, I wouldn't think it right to take advantage of WMP's refund offer, especially if the anchor wasn't bought from WMP in the first place.

I know it may seem a minor point but does WM get reimbursed for their time as well? Anyone who has ever had a business knows what "time" is.

Anyone who has had a successful business understands the value of customer "satisfaction". More than offsets the "time" expended IMO.

Good on West Marine.

Re: Buyer Beware

i think don is off base here.

1st, as xym stated west will simply send the item back to the mfg and the mfg will credit the retailer.

2nd, unless the expectation is that west is so busy that they have to stop putting cash in the draw to help the OP with the recall, time is not an issue. if retailers didnt understand and embrace the need to assist people in the store they would a) have only cashiers and b) never assist or talk to anyone in the store until first ensuring they were going to make a purchase.

3rd, it is simply part of owning a business. like it or not, it is a reality and it is not a reality that will change.

we all know someone (or are someone) who 'will never go back to [insert store name] because of the horrible service they received there' in fact i can remember multiple posts on CF specifically about WM.

any retailer that isnt eager to assist with this recall and staff properly to do so OR attempt to pass the costs on is being run by someone who knows nothing about business (dont get me started on how dumb MBAs are).

Re: Buyer Beware

When I click on the recall link I get the text but only an X where the picture is supposed to be. I have a West Marine brand Bosun's chair that was purchased by the previous owner. I really am more interested in whether this thing is going to drop me 50 feet than getting my money back. There is no item number or any other idenfiyying mark on my chair, just the West Marine Logo. It would have been helpful if they had included the date range in which the products were sold or some more identifying information. I have emailed West customer service, hopefully I'll have a response soon.
