A Swiss registration is apparently only allowed for Swiss citizens, which I'm not, and in any case this would require an independent safety survey (=€)

And as for insurance I guess Pantaenius would be a first place to look.

Any thoughts?
Forget Greece.. the Dutch will prove more expensive.. if using your sister have her name second on the registration and e-mail her the completed online form to be printed off and then mailed to Newport with a postal order for the required amount.
Or do it online paying by credit card.. however if its not a UK credit card you WILL open yourself up for further investigation/proof of residency.

PS; Have you investigated the Belgium registration..??

Re: Buying in Greece and re-registering advice

I am in Greece on the island of Kalymnos. If there is anything I can help you with let me know. I was born and raised in Canada. I'm a holder of 3 passports. Greek, Canadian and USA. I moved here for good in 2011. I've been involved in looking after foreign boats over the winter etc. Manny Tiliakos

Re: Buying in Greece and re-registering advice

Thanks for the offer.

Kalymnos is a lovely Island. We've sailed there a couple of times. I seem to remember on Leros, your neighbouring Island, all the dogs had under-bites!

Our Greek base at the moment is Epidavros on the mainland so some way away.

Thanks
Richard

Re: Buying in Greece and re-registering advice

Regarding insurance. I asked Pantaenius for an insurance for my 9 m boat when I intent to sail to Island. They said they didn’t want to give me an insurance. I don’t know, but either is my boat to small or Island are not a part of the word.

I had the same problem when I was looking for insurance for my boat. I kept trying and eventually I found one. The problem is that my boat has dutch registration.
