Canadian Buying A Boat In France - Keeping It In France

Hello all!

I have searched everywhere and cannot find a clear answer to this;

I just bought a First 31.7 in Marseille. I am Canadian just living and sailing in France in the Winter months - so I am not a resident.

Where and how to I register the boat?

What are the advantages per national options? (I can't register it in France as I am not a resident or national)

Should I register in Canada yet the boat will remain in France?

Thank you all!

Chris

I can tell you as an American with a boat in France (12m), I registered in England and it was easy to get insurance.

Re: Canadian Buying A Boat In France - Keeping It In France

Hi,

I am Canadian. I bought a German registered Lagoon 380 three weeks ago and I took possession in St Maarten. i also am not planning to take the boat back home (taxes and import fee being ridiculous) I registered the boat in Canada. The Canadian governmental bureaucracy being what it is, I was expecting a nightmare. Well, It was not straight forward but it was certainly not a nightmare. I had to educate a Canadian registrar about the German international licensing system and was jerked around a little bit about the bill of sale form but I received the registration paper within three days. As for the insurance, I got mine from UK (Edward Williams inc.) through a Florida broker.
