Canadian re-registration?

Hi all, I'm considering a German registered boat that was formerly Canadian registered, for importation back to Canada. Does anyone know the tax regs for such a transaction? Is it possible to transfer back into CDN registration at time of sale? Trying to avoid any reimportation duty. Tx.

Not enough info on your situation to provide clear advice.


But here it goes, anyway. If the boat was Canadian or US built, there should be no duty on importation regardless of it's current flag. If the boat is now outside of Canadian territory and you do not intend to bring it back to Canada, there should be no duty or GST regardless where it was built. If the boat was not Canadian or US built and was deleted from Canadian registration when it was sold foreign ( as it should have been) , then you'd have to check with Transport Canada to see how the situation applies to your case if you intend to bring the boat back to Canada. Lastly, if the boat is in Canada now or you intend to bring it in, you will be liable for GST regardless of where the boat was built.
