Financing a USCG documented boat outside US

Does anybody know or financed a boat delivered in Europe and kept in the Med but USCG documented and owned by US residents?

Is it possible or the boat has to be physically in the US a the time of purchase for financing by US banks?

We partially financed our boat with a loan from Lightstream (lightstream.com). The loan is not secured by the boat, so they really didn't care where it was.
