Questions about buying a Cat in Europe?

The time is getting closer.

Euro will be at parity to dollar within 1 year.

Looking at the latest Multihull world classified section , I see most pricing of Used boats are in Euro"s(being its primarily a european publication).

A newer model year Catana 47 priced at 500k Euro = 500k USD (at least how I see it-people can say what they want)

My questions are -
1- When I buy a Used boat in Europe and it says VAT excluded-As a US buyer do I have to pay the VAT ? and if so how much is it approx?

2- in many adds it says Leasing possible. Is that the same as owner financing? or is it bank financing? and if it is either what are typical terms that you have seen?

thanks

I don't share your views on the currency , but hey !

1. No if the boat is priced VAT excluded then you as a non EU tax resident can buy it VAT free. , you can keep it in the EU for 18 months before VAt is due.

2. Typically lease deals are country specific and only open to nationals/residents of that country. Some countries like france and Malta have vat concessions on leasing arrangements

Re: Questions about buying a Cat in Europe?

Ok,

I'm a non resident in EU. when i buy a boat there, i don't need to pay VAT thats it?
So, if a buy a boat in France with French flag, can i keep with the french flag or i have to change? I have to register boat in other country or can i keep the boat in my name with de france flag without pay the VAT?

Can I return to EU some day without pay the VAT?
Thanks,
