Surveying and Buying a Boat in Croatia

Hi Guys,

I live in Singapore. I am NOT a EU citizen. I am thinking of buying a boat non-vat paid in Croatia. AND THEN bringing it to Italy for 17 months. It will probably sit on the hard in Sardinia.

Its a motor boat an older sunseeker.

I will need it inspected and or surveyed, well at least the engines and hull.

ANY suggestions on finding an English speaking qualified surveyor in or around Croatia?

AND is my understanding correct:

I dont want to pay any VAT nor Croation taxes.

I must:
1) register her somewhere outside EU? (it may be possible to do this in Singapore as its outside the EU and its very very cheap to do so there)
2) Is my understanding correct in that I dont have to pay EU vat so long as its <18 months in the EU?
3) so long as the hulls insured and has the weird Italian liability insurance thing and I can prove I own it then; Its good to go?

Is that right?

Can you please advise?

YES!

I am pleased to report that in the end I did it.

The singapore thing was right. It costs about $130 to register a boat!

The Italian tax thing is cheap.

So thats the plan, if you want to do it!
