Yay! I Sold My Boat !

Lol! Ya - right!
Don't you get tired of these?
Do they really think we will fall for scams like these? I suppose some do, unfortunately.
From an email:
Quote:
Dear (Clausont) ,

Thanks for the response I do appreciate your email, I contacted my client on phone after I read your response, he was so impress to know the actual price which is acceptable by him, fortunately he called me today and he has agreed to pay your asking price.

However, My client made out a certified cashier’s check of ($40,000) before he left the town for a business trip to Europe, for a previous boat and its shipment charges etc. The amount on the check he deposited for the boat is bigger than what should be paid to you now, so the check is now meant for the total expenses which includes the purchase of your boat, the pick up of the boat from its present location and the shipping charges/other necessary shipping arrangements.

However he has instructed us to carry on with this transaction. So you're required to deduct the cost of your boat ($29,000) and send the balance of ($11,000) to my client shipper agent via western union money transfer to enable him offsett-shipping charges/arrangements.

Once the transaction is concluded, My agent will be coming for the pick up of the boat from its present location, on an open Vehicle and then drive to a pre paid shipper for shipment, and also conclude other necessary shipping arrangements. so you don't have to bother yourself about the pick up and shipping arrangements, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via courier service.

Please provide
Full Name…………………………………………….
Postal Address……………………………………….
Phone Number………………………………………
For check payment to be delivered to you.

Warm regards,
Mr Philip Garman
Get real.
Though I suppose I should give him my SSn, bank account and credit card info just to make it easier for him.
Am I missing anything?

Thank you for your reply Tim.
I have a question for you, Does the boat belong to you and how old is She? Also i would like to know the final price you would like to sell it.
The Mode of payment will definitely be a bank transfer. At the moment i am in Dubai checking out maintenance work on my Yacht.
Kindly do get back to me with necessary information. Regards Faruk

Hi Farouk,

Thank you for the interest. At the moment I am awaiting the arrival of a gentleman's cashiers check for the full purchase amount. He is including an extra amount for shipping and handling also. I need only to return to him the unused portion which will be around $10,000. He is a generous person who added the large extra amount for contingencies.
If you are interested in making an offer above the amount agreed upon by the other gentleman, I would consider selling it to you instead.
Thank you,

Tim
Why not?

Quite amazing. I will give them that they are persistent:

You have a very clean boat i see, What if i add $9000 is that a sealed deal? We Arabs know how to get what we want so its up to you really if you will consider my offer. And disregard whoever is making any offer to you including the one you dealing with right now. You can cancel the check. Let me know ASAP. Faruk
Wonder how high they will go.

You know, this strikes me as a great way to earn money while cruising- maybe we should point those other threads here. Of course, there's the inconvenience of searching for another boat to replace the one you've sold (profitably). Hell, maybe I could work my way up to an Morris 56, or a Oyster 56

Send a message via Yahoo to gonesail
sad thing is your bank will probably cash it .. but when it bounces 2 weeks later you'll be informed of the big problem

Absolutely a fact, Gonesail!
You would think that banks by now would have more checks and balances in place. I guess not though.

Sounds like a great idea, Zednotzee!

Maybe we can work our way up to a nice Prout or Lagoon or something that is big enough for our family !
