A boat on the hard...

I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I've successfully moved my 6 ton boat on the hard.

It comes out of the water onto its trailer, but I occasionally need to lift it clear of the trailer for bottom painting, or to move the weight off the tires onto jack stands over the winter.

It always requires planning, and thought, and jacks, and jack stands, and wooden cribbing, and a careful, one-step-at-a-time approach.

In 2004 the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry moved its U505, a WWII-era type IXC U-boat to its new display area.

At 1000 tons, it's a bigger job.

Looks like a nice sheltered cove to drop the hook.

Re: A boat on the hard...

Coincidently, my first experience anchoring Panope occurred simultaneously with her first move from the hard.

Early 1980's.

I was 12.

I've not figured out how to embed YouTube videos, so here's a still:

And this is mine, with trailer lifted off the tires:

Slight difference in scale...
