Re: A Whale of a Time

I was amazed at the footage from Nine msn. I have not heard of whales acting this way before but it makes me wonder what you Queenslanders are doing to your wales to make them so "angry".
Remember the white whale that jumped on a couple of boats a year or so ago up your way? Must be something in the water!

I guess one thing about all chain is that you wouldn't be able to cut it free.

Imagine if they dove...yikes.

I wonder if it was a accident or the whales playing or perhaps some sort of attack?

The sons of Moby Dick? The numbers are increasing at more than 10%PA & will become more of a hazard to shipping over time. ie doubling in numbers every year. It may reach a stage were we will pay the people who eat them to keep the numbers down!! Towed @ 10kts at night WOW.

Re: A Whale of a Time

Two years ago we had a 'pet' beluga in our harbor in Newfoundland. He hung around for several months and was quite tame, liked getting scratched and rolling around on the surface making farty noises.

But his favorite bit of fun was to tow a boat around. He would take the mooring line across his forehead, not in his mouth, and push the line taking the boat with him.

Blues and Minke whales are hanging around Redondo Beach CA. They don't seem to mind pleasure boats. We had one come alongside, raise flipper, roll under the boat, and raise flipper on the other side, just a few feet from us. Wife has pictures. Wow. That was too close.
