Smile Adrift in SF Bay ? I Think I Found Your Rudder !

This last Sunday my wife and I were taking in the sites sounds and collisions in and around San Francisco Bay during the fleet week celebrations. We were parked West of Alcatraz and noticed a rudder on the surface of the water making 2 knots toward the gate. We successfully fished the wayward blade from the brine in our first attempt and stowed it aboard.

Based on my CSI Miami forensics degree that I made up, This is a newer boat around 42' in length, and I am assuming you were overloaded on a beam reach headed North somewhere off of Oakland or Berkeley in the last week when it came loose, and most likely had to ditch in Berkeley or Richmond.

If you have lost a rudder of 5'-6" in length, I have it high and dry waiting for you to claim it once again as your own.

I have left out some specific details about the rudder to ensure that only the rightful owner takes possession.

contact me at cschmieding@gmail.com

Cheers!

re: Adrift in SF Bay? I Think I Found Your Rudder!

being out in the bay this weekend, you know that the majority of people on the water would have no idea they returned to their slip without a rudder!

i am guessing you were not one of the the posturing jack asses goosing the throttle in the donzi... as i doubt he would not even bother to avoid the rudder in the water. just sayin...

I was on the Bay on Sunday, looked like many people had lost the rudder AND the throttle lever.

I was on the freeways of Sacramento this weekend and I think it was the same there. Scary! I thought Calif. was PC??? Half of the vehicles were trucks or SUV's.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Re: Adrift in SF bay? I think I found your rudder!

When on the Bay last month (a weekday), it was pretty empty. Nevertheless, a nearby sailboater changed his direction (from close-hauled to broad reach) to intercept me east of Angel Island, and I had to make quick speed and direction adjustments to avoid a collision.

(Transamerica and BofA buildings poking through the fog.)
