Re: America’s Cup - ETNZ launches 1st AC75 (new)

well, nobody expected the Brits to beat the Kiwi's in the World rugby Cup, but it happened...
The Aussies had to claw back from a 3-1 deficit in '83...in their AC victory..
Ellison had to claw back from a 8-1 deficit to beat the Kiwi's...
Not sayin' that LR is up to the task, LR has one shot to make something happen now...but the betting money simply has to be on ETNZ at this point..still, would be good for the event, for LR to put another one, or two, on the board, just to keep things interesting.

Course A/B today (course A moved with the bottom end in the Rangitoto Channel where course B is) to take advantage of some wind compression at the bottom end of the course. Reasonable 10+ knots sea breeze forecast. Currently not much wind at all. Fingers crossed the wind fills in well.

Meanwhile we don' t mind if others want to have a play on the field. Our Kiwi cousin brothers are most welcome to have a go; crikey we even sent of our better sailors over the ditch to have a go on the boats. Just the Aussie way, lend a hand and keep current all at the same time.

Glad your countryman Jimmy is on the other helm as well, makes for a much better duel than it appeared it was going to be in the early rounds of the Prada cup.
My fervent wish is that it goes to 13 races & can't wait till Aus. mounts a challenge again.

To reminisce for a moment, the last race (decider) in 83 was full of tension. At the start of the penultimate leg, Australia was trailing and set for defeat; the boats separated on this downwind leg and when they finally came together for the final upwind beat, Australia was leading by a very small margin.

During the final beat to windward, Dennis Connor tried every trick in the book and then some to pass Australia II. It was nail biting stuff to history being made after 132 years.

I remember the 83' race well. On a hunch, I bet a case of beer on the Aussies, having them winning. At the time, everyone thought I was crazy...and perhaps I was...but the beer sure tasted good...

Great job by the Italians to keep it interesting even though their boat was a bit slower.

This course and wind today did favor NZ, but no doubt they deserve to keep the cup

Well what a Regatta that turned out to be.

Fantastic stuff Luna Rosa, Ineos and American Magic, it's one of those rare times for superlatives! Incredibly hard fought right to the end. So well done.

It's way to early to ask a question, but can't resist also saying "Looking forward to see what they come up with next, for four years time."
