PS Iceland also immediately slaughters any Polar bears who dare to swim over from Greenland.........and Denmark ia AOK with mass Dolphin murder in Faroe Islands cause "its their tradition". In Isceland the Whale hunting ships are docked within blocks of whale watching tour boats!! They dont eat the whales but sell the meat to Japan. Anything for money is worldwide.

Recent stats from Libs fav source CNN are: Iceland has killed 1700+ whales since 1986 ,they averaged 35 tons in weight. Last year Faroe Islands killed 1400+ dolphins in a single DAY! Most with chainsaws cutting their spines. Utube has the video but it will make most sick. I couldnt watch. Faroe Islanders also kill pilot whales in large numbers . ITS THEIR TRADITION SO ITS OK. plus its how they prove their "manhood".

Not saying it is enough, but the US signed a multi-nation démarche protesting Japan's whaling activities, and another similar démarche sent to Iceland.

WDC has welcomed today’s announcement that the UK government, together with all European Union member states and the US, has issued a high level diplomatic protest (démarche) strongly condemning Japan´s plan to continue its so-called “research” whaling in the Southern Ocean.

The démarche, initiated by New Zealand, was also signed by the governments of Australia and Mexico, and leaves Japan one step away from potential legal action.

This significant diplomatic protest is in response to Japan’s recent decision to issue itself a new whaling permit, which will see the country’s whaling fleet slaughter up to 333 minke whales each year for the next 12 years despite the fact that Japan’s so-called ‘research’ whaling has been strongly condemned, and banned, for being unscientific by the UN’s International Court of Justice.

The UK and 25 other countries have condemned Iceland's whaling policy, putting pressure on the country's bid to restore its collapsed economy by joining the EU.

The countries, which included the US, Germany, France, Portugal and Spain, welcomed the decision of its new government to review the number of whales it hunts each year. But today issued a formal diplomatic position, or démarche, to the Icelandic ambassador in the UK as animal welfare activists demonstrated outside the Icelandic government's London embassy in protest against the country killing 125 fin whales and 79 minke whales in recent months

"We were deeply disappointed with the former Icelandic government's decision to authorise the hunting of fin and minke whales over the next five years on 27 January 2009. The authorisation was put in place without presentation to the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and without regard for the long term interests of cetacean conservation", said the diplomatic note.
