Re: Anyone dreaming about living on a cruise ship?

Okay, I have to take the bait, what gives?

I came back to this after seeing the hat thread perpetuate itself through the contributions of members who have been silent for a decade only to be so moved by the compelling topic to break their radio silence so they can discuss the merits of a sort of odd hat... on a sailing forum. This OP has been a member for 4 years and has posted nothing until this question.

I wrote several answers to the OP's question, and deleted them because they were too inflammatory. In the interests of civil discourse, a polite answer is best.

No, thank you.

Re: Anyone dreaming about living on a cruise ship?

OK, I'll take the counter point.

Not exactly my retirement dream, but when it comes down to moving into an old folks home/retirement community or living on a cruise ship, if I had the budget I'd consider it.

If you have the means, it may be a valid alternative to let someone else get you around as opposed to hanging around on your own boat at a marina, maintaining the boat, pumping out the heads and scraping the barnicles off.

And getting very fat. A 10 days cruise put about 4 kilos on you.

Re: Anyone dreaming about living on a cruise ship?

There have been articles about seniors, usually older women who do or have done this. Their point was it was cheaper than senior living apartments, the food and service was better, lots of activities and there was a Doctor on call.
Maybe they just got too old to sail anymore and wanted to stay on the water.

Doug Casey has written on what a ripoff seniors retirement facilities are, and how you get better service in a hotel with room service. Not my thing, but i can certainly see why some might like it.

I am thinking we could have a competition for best answer to this post.
First prize - a week on a cruise ship.
Second prize - two weeks on a cruise ship.

There is no privacy on a cruise ship. Best likened to attending a movie theater where a group of strangers are sharing an imaginary world.

Real sailors are on ships that they sail, where they enjoy their off and on watch work.

Better yet, get a job on one. There are several anchored in the Bay of La Paz just waiting for the plandemic to be over. You can start in the sanitation department.

Watched the video again. One Asian woman who appeared to be a guest/resident, otherwise pure Wonder Bread, except the staff who were mostly people of color. I guess they are tolerated. Looked like The Villages here in FL.
