Re: basic boat insurance?

I have Progressive. I hear Farmers might be another option. Not sure about Boat US.

I also have Progressive. What disasters ? Homeowners insurance has become a problem due to wildfires, floods, landslides, cost of construction etc. but that doesn't affect boat insurance.

Re: basic boat insurance?

I just got a quote from Hagerty Marine Insurance since my other company dropped me; boat was too old their underwriters said. My previous was $200/yr, now it is double that.

I doubt your $400 annual premium will evoke much sympathy here.

Re: basic boat insurance?

Perhaps by your opinion, but doubling is worth mentioning.

I added mine to my homeowners. Basic liability only.

Re: basic boat insurance?

You don’t provide enough details about your boat to provide a good answer. Geico dropped us in California in February, they “don’t insure that kind of boat anymore”. Progressive told us our boat was too valuable. Another company said too old. In the end, Boater’s Insurance Agency (https://bia.us/) out in Danville found us a policy from a second-tier company. End cost was actually just a bit less than our Geico policy for essentially the same coverage (excluding any comparison of the rating of the insurance companies).

I had to go grab the paperwork to check. Great American Insurance Group.Seemed reasonable in what research I could do, but found very little information on actual recreational marine claims.

For most California marinas the difficulty is that you must carry hull and pollution insurance, not just liability, and if the marina management is any good they require a reasonably rated company to provide that insurance.
