Best adhesive for Hypalon?

Our Hypalon RIB is aging and we’re seeking a replacement but in the mean time I need to do some work on it. I need to re-attach the grab ropes and the gasket around the tubes is coming off in a few places. What’s the best adhesive to do this? Also I have a jar of liquid Hypalon I’d like to apply, can I just paint it on or is there a better use for it?

Don't recall the names or brands but there are several specialty adhesives made for Hypalon that work well. However for quick and dirty and easy to find I used plain old 5200 for some major repairs to my old dinghy. Been about five years and all repairs are good as new.

Another benefit, 5200 will bond PVC to Hypalon so I was able to reattach my PVC rub rail to the Hypalon tubes.

Polymarine makes both hypalon and pvc glues. Both available through Defenders and elsewhere.

Check the adhesive instructions for recommended environmental conditions. IIRC, most are looking for moderate temperatures and lower temperatures than normally found in a non-climate controlled environment, at least in the summer.

I've successfully used conventional contact cement on Hypalon and had it last for years. I'm suspicious (but may be wrong...) that all the special Hypalon glues are just rebranded contact cement sold at a significantly higher price.

Ditto MVMojo: Just use plain old hardware store contact cement, first two coats thinned with acetone....let first two coats dry for 20-30 minutes each, then third coat dry for 4-5 minutes and push the two parts together. Make sure you use thin coats and both the boat and patch/handle get roughed up and coated.

HH-66 vinyl cement , comes in 8,16,32 oz.

Works great.
I used on my 80s vintage Avon rubrail and feathering overlapping..
And it won’t break the bank...
It’s also great on automotive and household applications .

I've used 5 minute epoxy with great success. It's more flexible than the one hour version and you can hold it together while it goes off. It also fills gaps when the patch is over a seam.

Whatever you use.. prep is key, scuff and properly clean with solvent both surfaces. Make sure to put pressure on it as it dries. I use the 2 part ploymarine for critical repairs and 4200/5200 for accesories like grab lines, etc.

For hypalon to hypalon (like the patches for the rope attachment), SC 4000 works a treat. It is also super below the waterline. It is a 2 part conveyor belt adhesive, used also in the food industry. We haven't used it on pvc, so I don't know about that.

The 3M 5200 will truly bond the pvc spray strip to the dinghy: however, the dry time is a week (or used to be), and I'd read the 3M 4200 label and see if it is good for a pvc to hypalon bond and use that on the strip, if it is appropriate, because it sets up quicker.

Gflex epoxy is great when humidity is too high for the 2 part hypalon glue or you dont want to spend that much money for something you won't probably use all off. downside to epoxy is you need some clamping pressure. otherwise works awesome on PVC and Hypalon. Considered the "trade secret" of many Caribbean dinghy repairers.

Two parts Hypalon make permanent repair but it is expensive and you need specific conditions ( dry weather no sun) and time for curing the adhesive.

In white water rafting, we use two-part cement. It should be available in small quantities from anyone that sells whitewater rafts.
