Buying Catalina 36 pointers / concerns

I am looking at making an offer on a 1989 Catalina 36 tall rig on the east coast of FL. Has the original Universal X25 diesel and rigging.

Any basic issues / concerns or areas that need to be examined with the basic structure based on your experiences?

thanks for input, good and bad. the boat looks very clean and has a lot of goodies on board for key hopping and the like.

The ones from the 80s have this cheap looking vinyl cover for a head liner that gave my buddy a hard way to go as far as it falling down ,he removed it after a few failed procedures to get it to stick..Nice bots from what I could tell ,good luck,DVC

Re: Buying Catalina 36 pointers / concerns

I think the 89's had the mast compression post base issue that was common to Catalinas of that era. Also, the MX-25 had the trailer hitch wiring issue, IIRC. Both of those could have been already fixed by now.

Nice boats.

Good luck

Contact MaineSail on this list.
As I recall, the bulkheads were screwed, not tabbed, and cabinets were screwed, not bolted.
