I, personally, would not want to buy a derelict boat in FP. First off, there's the import duty. Then there's the health insurance. And then, just when you think the air is clearing, there's all the parts you need to buy, at 100 % duty. You must be a whole lot tougher than I am! Good luck to you.

hi ann...while i agree that FP can be be quite expensive, once you become a resident the local govt health cover (csp) here is very good and surprisingly inexpensive

of course does not make up for the other high costs...

cheers,

Go on, chrisr, ruin my day; tell how much a bottle whiskey or rum costs?

Re: Cheaply buying a derelict boat in French-Polynesia?

don't drink whisky, but it is fairly expensive

rum on the other hand is cheap. 1700 - 2000 xpf per litre. i buy mine in 10 litre drums from the fruit juice lady in carrefour carpark...

cheers,

How much is 1700 - 2000 xpf in real money, say US $?
EDIT. Found a rate, so a max of US$18 for 10 litres. Bargain!

Maths is not my strong point
US$18 per litre is more accurate

I’m going to have to jump in on the thread creep… The $20 rum isn’t drinkable. ANY remotely decent booze starts at $50 per liter. Beer is $2+ each, by the case. A $20 bottle of wine isn’t usually very good.

HOWEVER, no one looks at your checked luggage…

warning - thread drift

we all know drinking rum is an acquired art, and we all have our views on what constitutes a good rum

however imho the rhum i'm drinking every day here is definitely better than drinkable...it's actually rather good (esp with pineapple juice)

i'm guessing you are not here in FP so perhaps we are talking about different stuff. anyway, happy to agree to disagree

however certainly any imported brand name spirits are very expensive, and as for wine...OMG !

cheers,
