Chemistry

Does anyone have the bearing sizes for Silentwind turbines? Plenty of info on how to do the job but no info on the bearings themselves.

Re: Chemistry

Welcome to CF, not quite the place for this thread, and not sure what this thread has to do with chemistry?, but...

For the Silentwind Pro (at least) the rotor bearings are 6203-2RZ - 17mm bore, 40mm OD, 12mm thick.

Re: Chemistry

Be sure to buy a quality brand of bearing. The Asian brands have too much internal clearances and the metal quality is just as important.

IAWs buy the most expensive one.

Re: Chemistry

Silentwind installs the -2RZ bearings which have a rubber "seal" both sides, but the "Z" seals are not perfect, they are non-contact with the inner bore, bonded to the outer (so they're more like a flap of rubber covering the balls). A -2RS is a better seal, it is bonded outer and has contact (essentially a lip seal) with the inner.

However, the RS has a (significantly) higher rotational friction. I assume that Silentwind went with the RZ in order to reduce friction especially at low wind speeds. The RS may be more available, I have no idea how much performance degradation it would cause. The RS also has a lower top speed limit for the same reason, the turbine probably won't get there though.
