Re: Commandeered to Cuba

I sailed to Cuba and visited several ports there in 2012. I was able to find plenty of rope, get a sail repaired cheaply and well, and provision as usual. The marinas are pretty good, especially the ones at Hemmingway and Cienfugeos as far as security and supplies. The cost of diesel is high and you have to look around and cheat a bit to get lube oil. I was in Cuba for a month or so and traveled extensively, talked to ordinary people, and really liked the social climate there. The people are great. Sailors are treated well and you can find almost anything you need for a boat because they have quite a few commercial fishermen. If you have to have something custom built, the costs are far less than in the USA.
