Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.

In some ways I found to story painted quite a nice picture of the man.

They've done some updating on the story, I see.

Hmmmm overall retire to the corner and re-read the story.
In my defense the story I read wasn't the one linked here, and that cut n paste jorno is to blame

Anyway, its sad. But beats drifting off in a nursing home. I hope his death was gentle.

Reckon it was a better death than the guy found chained to his mast on his trimaran of Portugal a few years ago..
If memory serves.. the couple he'd taken as crew were traced, arrested and jailed.

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.

Hopefully his family will find some closure by now knowing that he & his yacht has been found which is far better than never knowing. Personally, I don't find publishing his photo offensive at all. He appears to have died in peace and just appears to be sleeping.

One rather strange thing though is that it looks like his body has a full head of grey hair but the "recent" photo in the article shows him virtually bald with very sparse wisps of hair.

In another of the photos it also appears that the "salvagers" have run the vessel aground on a reef as it has quite a severe heel. A sad state for a yacht that has been drifting the seas through all conditions for a long time.

Mummified Mariner Found

'The power of the demons was stronger than the will to live': Mummified mariner's haunting tributes to his dead wife are found along with fading photos that provide clues to his life
  • Manfred Fritz Bajorat, 59, found off coast of Barobo in Surigao del Sur
  • A letter to his late wife was uncovered as well as old family photos
  • Decomposing body was near radio telephone as if he was trying last call
  • Dry ocean winds, hot temperatures and salty air helped preserve his body
  • It is unclear what killed Manfred or how long he has been dead
Mummified body of missing Manfred Fritz Bajorat is found inside drifting yacht | Daily Mail Online

Mummified at sea? Exposed in a cabin that is awash? I'm tempted to call ********.

Re: Mummified Mariner Found

Anybody else find it distasteful and less than professional that they posted pics of the body, and then read his mail and publicly speculated on the contents?

Don't have a problem with bodies, but I'd like to think if I was ever found like this a little more decorum might be shown.

Completely agree, just too lazy to post it in all 5 or so topics that were opened linking this article

But imagine this is your loved one, and you see those pics ... They shouldn't have been posted, imho.

Precisely. In poor taste, to say the least.

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.

Seems his boat was a Jeanneau Sun Magic 44. Made around the late 1980's?

Wikipedia, onto the story early, noted:
Bajorat wrote Claudia a thirtytwo thousand (sic -although later corrected) word memoriam.
"Thirty years we're been together on the same path. Then the power of the demons was stronger than the will to live. You're gone. May your soul find its peace. Your Manfred."

It doesn't say where or when this was written. Also dredging the thoughts of dead people is not a particularly good idea in my view.
But it's unclear to me and maybe to others whether the demons to which he refers were in his wife or in himself, or both.
If they were in himself it maybe gives some clue to the cause of his death.

His wife.

The man is now entertainment and DM and sites / magazines like that will take whatever they can from his death for views and clicks ...
