Re: Defintion of a crusier

You are definitely a fultime Cruiser, we cruise back and forth from New London Ct to Vero Beach FL. Capt Mary has a house in Ct and we co own in Vero. I don't have time to make such an elaborate, well thought out chart.
Cheers

Re: Defintion of a crusier

Well McBlaze - you were pretty blazé (note the clever use of a word taken out of the spelling of your name)to calmly state that induction cooking was the only acceptable heating source for cruisers. I mean there's:
butane
propane
kerosene
diesel
gasoline (yeah I know fire and all that - but people still use coleman stoves on small boats
bar-be-que (so wood)

plus others I forgot to mention

and here's one just to give you something to think about - i have an acquaintance who built a submarine - it can stay below water for up to 8 hours and carries a crew of 4, top speed - 6 knots - maximum depth 30 meters

so is he a cruiser?

How is this for a definition:

anyone who is idiot enough to practice:

the art of cruising is going nowhere very slowly and at very great expense

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Not sure if you caught the idiom so..

"Now we’re cooking with gas” originated in the late 1930’s or early 40s as a slogan thought up by the natural gas industry to convince people to use gas, rather than electricity, on their new-fangled stoves. This was the era where there was a widespread transition from wood-fueled stoves, and electric and natural gas stoves were in competition with each other."

But since gas stoves are so ubiquitous, I had to up the game to induction which seems to be the cool kid thing these days. Forgive me if I am stating the obvious

As for submariners, my knee-jerk is to write them off as some sort of weird fringe group, but I have heard, as a breed, they are some tough sons of b**ches, so upon reflection I hereby officially declare all submariners as "Cruisers, negative depth"

Taking first letters I see cruise and cruising. Very good .
cruise is what we do. cruising is act of doing it but.
Still did not define CRUISER . so close but no cigar.
thread still alive.

BRILLIANT!!! Best creative set of analysis and consequential thoughts, including the charts (you must be a Boeing or Microsoft guy) I’ve seen in ages! And I DID NOT miss your point. But now lets talk about refrigeration and solar panels...
PS. Please send your first post to Richard Spindler/Latitude 38. Cheers Mate

Gee I don't know man, I'm more of a 48° North person myself — 38° is way too south for the likes of me

Refrigeration and solar will likely need to be in Subchart 3B: Power Draws. Originally I had most power things all in one Subchart (3) but the damn batteries became a huge issue. I had to empower a blue ribbon committee to study if people who use who lithium right off are "real" cruisers or if you have to suffer along with a lead acid apprenticeship first. Heady stuff.

Re: Defintion of a crusier

So...you can easily do an hour of stand up comedy in a gathering of cruisers. I’ll Throw a rum-infused response ala an off-the-cuff response acronym (might not be the right word): LTMCSOSAPACCAWFTLTY. Breakdown of the acronym). Long Term Married Couple Sailing Our Sloop Around Pacific and Caribbean Central American Waters For The Last Ten Years.
Your wry humor is unparalleled. Cheers Mate!
PS...so lets talk about HF radios versus SatPhones for wx updates 😁

Re: Defintion of a crusier

Gosh, Bob, How long do you have to be married to qualify as long term? Friends just celebrated their 50th anniv, but us, not in that league.

I understand your request for relevance (SSB still does us, offshore), but I think it's good to have a laugh, you know.

There's a lot to be concerned about right now, and we do our peers a favor by informing ourselves and doing the best we can with it.
