DIY whisker pole

Building my own pole . I have the socket end but do I need a piston end or an automatic end for the end that attaches to the clew? Don't know what the difference is. Can someone explain Thank you

Are you planning on “end for ending” the pole or dipping?
Permanently installing or detaching?
These change the requirements.
