Donate boat in Florida?

I did a few searches so I apologize if there is a consolidated conversation somewhere I missed... point me to it please

I bought a Cape Dory 27 up in lake michigan to go sailing for a month and see if I like sailing. (im a new sailor)

That was 4 months ago haha. I like it https://forecast.predictwind.com/tra.../SV-Albatross/

Long story short I just kind of ran out of steam and interest on the east coast.
I want to go to the sea of cortez and check that out. But I digress...

I am in the usual boat pickle of a lower priced boat and it quickly costing more to keep at a marina than Its worth.

I am looking for thoughts about donating to a good cause in the daytona beach area.

Specific charity groups better than others? Easier? Much tax benefit, or is it more just an easy out from your boat. I love my boat and would love to see it actually used for kids.. I assume they arent going to gaurantee that. Do they allow or would it be considered bad form to take the electronics out for my next boat?

For reference this is my boat

Kars for Kids ...

Had the same issue with an 'extra' car after a divorce, so quick and easy, tax credit, etc.

Re: Donate boat in Florida?

looks like you had an amazing journey. friend of mine donated a very nice but older boat. i am thinking of doing the same when the time comes .. even though there's no tax advantage for me. but surely someone will snap that Cape Dory up in the meantime

Re: Donate boat in Florida?

BoatAngel.com posts donated boats on ebay all the time. I bet if you post it on Craigslist and the CapeDory.org classifieds board for $2k and are willing to negotiate down a little you can get it sold in a month. Someone just donated an engineless boat about that size to Sam Holmes (who's CD28 is in Amsterdam for the winter) so he can make YouTube content with it while his Schengen time resets.

https://safeharboracademy.com/

Located in Jacksonville, FL.
This would be a great place for your donation. They take in at risk boys and teach them life and vocational skills in a maritime environment.

"We provide a structured transformational setting and educational alternative for boys, age 14-17, who may otherwise end up in harsher state-run juvenile programs.

Boys in minor trouble with the law, expelled from school, who are exhibiting bad behavior are counseled and mentored by our team. They learn responsibility, self-respect, and respect for others, while they also have the opportunity to learn a vocation."
