Engine space insulation

I have a small engine room which houses my Yanmar engine and Onan genset (stacked).
This season the insulation is disintegrating. (A black foam with a foil facing).
I am in the throws of removing the loose stuff and my (dumb?) question is do I really need to replace it?. Sound is not an issue for me but I am concerned about whether this is unsafe concerning a fire threat.

I know exactly the foam you are talking about. It only resists fire. If noise and heat transfer is not an issue then remove it permanently...and have a method of putting out a fire in your engine space, ideally automatically or remotely or both.
