ER tiller

My newly purchased 1974 C&C 33 has the hook up for emergency steering but not the actual tiller.
Does anyone know where I could find one?

You might be able to fabricate one from bar stock. My Caliber 33 emergency tiller is made up of a galvanized steel tube with slots and a bar welded to it for a handle. You could likely bolt it together instead of welding. I don't have a picture of mine, but will take one when I'm at the boat in a couple days. I haven't used it yet, but want to as I've been considering converting from wheel to tiller.

I should doubt that you would find one in the secondhand market. Emergency tillers tend to grow legs :-)

They are, however, the lowest of low tech, so give us a pic of the socket into which it ships on your existing steering gear - a wheel steerer presumably - and we can tell you what you need to do to make one or have one made.

Thank you for your message. I will consider all options as i find it a little disconcerting to be out in the blue without one. I’m a coastal cruiser but it’s a must have for me.
