Yes, still harassment, but also fake news here...
Please carefully consider use of that phrase. The fostering of distrust of all media that one doesn't like is a pathway to dictatorship. The media is flawed. Government without media is much, much worse.

Good is good my friend. I don't criticize people for doing less than they might. They are a big step above those doing nothing.

Re: Feds Seek Info on Manatee Crime

From what I have read about this story the truth is nobody "carved" anything. Someone wiped slime off the animal to "write" Trump's name.

Irrelevant. The crime is still the same.

Could this be one of Tump's lost votes?

Re: Feds Seek Info on Manatee Crime

Don't think anyone CARVED anything on a manatee.

Might have used a brush to disturb the normal algae coat and leave a TEMPORARY mark.

Meanwhile, contemplate for a moment, what the response might have been if the word had said Biden, not Trump.

I think that when they are caught all that needs to be done is to carve "TRUMP" on their back, soak them in vinegar and then let them go........

Manatees have incredibly strong skin, so strong, Native American tribes used it as material for shields. Manatees were considered, like turtles and crocodiles, sacred foods to be eaten only in times of emergency as in after a hurricane.
Something like 90 % of all manatees have been hit by propellers. They survive deep cuts in an environment full of very nasty marine microbes. They survive because they have an incredible immune system. The vaccine for papilloma in humans began as a study of the almost perfect immunity manatees had to this virus. This crime was not and is not about scratching, cutting, tattooing carving ...what ever dang word you want or don’t want to use...I did not choose carve...it was the descriptive told to me by one of the first people on scene. Marine mammal scientists know how resistant manatees are to skin trauma.
The center point of this criminal action is the potential fatal result of disturbing manatees in winter as they try to survive the cold.
They don’t just lie there like logs because they are stupid or slow. They are not fat. They actually have very little body fat and can simply die from the cold.
They rest in groups. If you frighten one, they all react. They loose energy and that can be fatal. That’s the crime here. That will be the center of the charges.
Please stop all this nonsense about how it was reported, or what word ended up on this manatee. Please, just stop the silly comment.
The preservation of manatees and manatee habitat is in our best interest for our preservation. it’s just that simple. It’s not a crime against them, it was a crime against all of us.
Captain Mark
thanks for this info, Mark

As already stated, the law reads: "It is unlawful for any person, at any time, intentionally or negligently, to annoy, molest, harass, or disturb any manatee."

As I stated, it appears that it is irrelevant what was written. So please... explain how I am wrong.

When it's someone who lives or dies by their PR (like movie/tv stars)...yes, logical people look at the ulterior motives.

As indicated, this is a whole not of nothing. No "big step" involved beyond trying to get good PR.

All of course spurred by essentially someone illegally petting a manatee.

It's also a crime for my wife to cut her hair without my permission in Michigan She's violated that law for years. Just because it's on the law books doesn't mean we should get out the pitchforks for something that is relatively harmless.

Sure issue a citation if caught (which is the typical response to similar non-political cases) but the extreme responses are mostly due to the political aspect and not out of any desire to protect manatees.

If you are thinking "an eye for an eye", I don't think offering a massage is a great message to send.
