Re: Got a plastic classic?

Update on my classic plastic. Been working on making the "living" portion of libe aboard a little better. Cleaned up the outside so I feel good about being on the boat by cleaning up the teak and overall cleanliness (the boat had been on the hard for a short period so collected some dirt and dust).

I just finished redoing the head entirely. New toilet and hoses (no more smell yea me!). Then I stripped it out, replaced all the fixtures, tiled the counter, and repainted the head. I'm new to this remodeling thing so if you look close you can see some imperfections but overall I'm happy to have this done. Spending the thanksgiving week painting the vberth.

Before shot:

Finished product:

Here's a link to the blog where I'm keeping track of stuff and informing the family (they're not boat people so not sure what it is exactly that I'm doing and if prescribed meds are needed for me). The Sailboat Palani - A Sailing Adventure There's lot more pictures on the blog.

Re: Got a plastic classic?

If I lived in the PNW and had the $ and cash flow to support her, I'd sure get a closer look at this one...
Custom Columbia 50/55

in the same collection of boats for sale is a Dana 24 with an asking price of $56K! It's a VERY nice little boat but, really, if you have 60K....
...or a Falmouth 22 for $68K? Do they really sell for that?

If you are in Alaska or BC, this is an especially nice one:
Columbia 38 for sale

I'm pretty sure this boat's name is "Sheer" and was shown on the Columbia Owners Group going through a major refit not long ago.

After checking, this boat is indeed "Sheer" and likely in near bristol shape. If you are in the PNW and want to sail her back down perhaps... worth a look. She was sailed by her owner up to AK from Puget Sound area...

$30K for this classic boat is an incredible bargain in my humble opinion... have a look at the refit here:
columbia38
Where can you find more info on a prospective boat purchase than in the photos and full description of the refit? Dang, I wish I had $30K...

Re: Got a plastic classic?

My 1980 37' O'day is plastic and it is fantastic!
Without getting too lost in tradition my center cockpit 37 is a floating condo but her keel shape and hull make her as good a sailer as any production boat from 1980. I planned on living aboard after retirement right from the start so everything I fix, replace or repair gets done as right as I can get it.
I started by redoing the main cabin which makes her like no other you'll find out there.
Scheduled for shakedown in early Spring.
