GPS Connection fails after a minute of so.

Hi all.

I have a Raymarine RL-70 Chartplotter with GPS. The Chartplotter outputs NMEA0183 at 4800 and it has worked reliably for years to transfer data to a Standard Horizon radio that can display GPS data

This weekend I added a serial cable to connect the GPS data to my notebook. I then use a serial to USB adapter, because my notebook does not have a serial input. I created a new connection in OpenCPN and ran the NMEA debugger. Nothing. I disconnected the USB cable and reconnected it and the data flowed and I got a fix. But after about a minute, the data stopped. If I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the data flows again, but stops after about a minute.

At the same time, the Standard Horizon radio continued to receive GPS data without interruption.

Any idea of the problem and how to fix it?

The USB adapters can be flaky. You might want to try a different brand.
