Hardened black seepage from fuel injector on top of engine

We have an old universal m25.xp .We're out on the water far from home and Can we make it safely home.abput 150 miles
Visible hardened black seepage on external engine from one fuel injector. It's black and hard, the color of oil. A few splatters down below.
We've also had vapor from the exhaust.
Engine sounds and runs good, we're running at lower rpms since we saw this. Starts we'll.
I'll post pictures. Our likelihood of help out here (bc coast, the Broughtons) high summer is slim

A good intervention immediately would be to tighten the injector if you have a tool that can fit the lower hexagon. When you finally get to a place where you can fix this ( what appears to be a compression leak) pay close attention to the sealing surfaces for “tracking” and install a new copper sealing washer.

This is called the black death on Mercedes sprinter vans. It’s basically a leak where the injector sealing washer is.

it’s not the end of the world. You can keep going 150 miles. That’s probably not going to be a problem at all. You can address it when you get back.

you will need to pull the injectors and clean everything off and reseal them once you get back.

here is some other random forum where someone had the same problem and they cleaned them up and fixed everything. It took about six hours and $150 it says

Just so you don’t get too freaked out. It’s not that big of a deal

Re: Hardened black seepage from fuel injector on top of engine

Appreciate both answers. Just knowing what it is and that getting home is not going to destroy the engine, it sounds like a job we can do. Thanks!
