Hartge Yacht Harbor and Yard news

May 9, 2022
WE ARE GOING HOME!
I am pleased to announce that we are moving the business back to our original location at Hartge Yacht “Harbor”. As of September, Hartge Yacht “Yard” will again operate from where we left thirteen years ago. This is where its founder, Emile Alexander Hartge, built a home and boatyard business. This is where I started working full-time in 1974 and operated the yard for over three decades.
In June 2021, Hamilton Chaney of Herrington Harbour Marinas purchased Hartge Yacht Harbor. Their intention is to bring the marina and grounds to the same high quality that Herrington Harbour is known for. With the combination of the marina and our service excellence and reputation, Hartge’s will provide an exceptional full-service marina experience on the Chesapeake Bay.
Hartge Yacht Yard will operate out of the renovated Big Shop, Stock Room, and the 3-bay Paint Shop. The plan is to combine our current employees with the Harbor service personnel for a combined workforce of about 40 employees. We will have a larger travelift (50 tons) in addition to our 25-ton and 30-ton lifts, two hydraulic trailers, an all-terrain crane and gin pole, and our extensive inventory of shop equipment. The Harbor has twice the dry storage space and more elbow room than we have now.
Improvements to the building and grounds at Hartge Yacht Harbor have been underway. Overall, the facility and services will be a significant improvement to serve you better. We will keep you informed of our progress over the summer months and look forward to serving you at Hartge's.

No, that's the Yacht Yard. Yacht Harbor is on Church Lane (see address in your first link.)

Interesting; useful update. What happens to the current Yard property?

Re: Hartge Yacht Harbor and Yard news

Follow up..

Upcoming Move
Hartge Yacht Yard (HYY) will move from its present location on Woodfield Road and Tenthouse Creek to Hartge Yacht Harbor (HYH) on Church Lane and Lerch Creek, where we were thirteen years ago. To make it easier to communicate, I like to call our present location "Woodfield's" and Hartge Yacht Harbor as the "Harbor".

The Harbor will continue to run the marina, slips, and moorings. As of September 1, 2022, HYY will rent certain Harbor buildings, slips and shore space, plus hire and employ service personnel previously with the Harbor. Boats renting space on shore will be renting from HYY starting September 1st. We plan to keep all the employees from both Woodfield's and the service side of the Harbor. I will continue as General Manager and Luke as Service Manager. My son, Xan Schlegel, and Mike McVeary are learning the management side of the business and will take over before long. Also, as important, our Office Manager/Bookkeeper, Alaina Wine, along with Harbor stockroom and service person, Kelli Beitzel, will be in the office. Wayne Graham will continue to oversee haul outs, fiberglass repairs, and Awlgrip painting. I look forward to very positive results with the combined management and combined technicians.

For this fall, we plan to follow last year's placement and offer winter haul out for our HYY customers at Woodfield's. Boats previously hauled at the Harbor will again be hauled at the Harbor. The boats hauled at Woodfield's will be launched no later than early May 2023. One of the many benefits at the Harbor is placing boats indoors for work projects where we have good light, heat, and air conditioning. Boats with larger projects requiring indoor work space, will be hauled at the Harbor. We will be sending out Winter Work Orders in early September.

Improvements at the Harbor grounds and buildings, as I expected, will be on-going. It is good to see the progress taking place. We, at Hartge Yacht Yard, are anticipating a smooth transition in combining our talents with the employees at the Harbor and eager to get to know and work with new and previous customers.

Sincerely yours,

Alex Schlegel, General Manager

Re: Hartge Yacht Harbor and Yard news

Our planned September 1st move of Hartge Yacht Yard from Woodfields to Hartge Yacht Harbor has been put off temporarily while we wait for shop renovations to be complete. We have been running the service business for both yards since September 1st with Luke, Xan, Alaina, and Laura at Woodfields. Wayne, Mike and Kelli are now Hartge Yacht Yard employees who remain at the Harbor and are helping us from there.
There is a steady line up this winter of boats for the paint booth and work for all the crew, however, our Varnish & Brush Paint Crew is looking for more work for October/November. Peany Matthews and Dan Cox have been doing first-rate brushing for decades. Apprentices Sheryl Walters and Savannah Gross are learning great technique from the masters. Now is a good time if you need varnish, Sikkens Cetol, or paint work. Please give Luke a call if you are interested.
Hartge Yacht Yard and Hartge Yacht Harbor thank you for being with us on wonderful West River.
Alex Schlegel
