Heading south

Hello,
We have just retired and after 40 plus years of boating we’ll be heading south this fall for the 1st time. So, looking for advice on a reasonable itinerary including marinas, moorings and anchorage’s. We’re cruising on a 46 GB Europa and we run about 8 or 9 knots. We usually like to run 30 to 50 miles at a clip.
I’m guessing many of you have cruised south a bunch and have a list of plan A/ plan B spots. We’ve been cruising “seat of the pants” style in the Northeast this summer but would prefer a little more structured trip south.
Thanks in advance!

Brian

Re: Heading south

Are you familiar with Bob423 and his tracks that he updates fall and spring most years? If not, I suggest you search for those, learn how to use them, possibly check out his blog.

Having a good awareness of tides and known trouble spots along your intended path is critical for peace of mind and the planning necessary to achieve it. What tools are you using for that awareness and planning? Are you planning to go offshore at all, thinking about it?

With days as you've described, how often will you need fuel? Groceries?

Do you have a final destination in mind? A place to stay when you get there, either on the boat or ashore?

How's your confidence in/experience with your ground tackle? Do you trust it and your anchoring skills to weather 20-30 knots sustained, 40+ knot gusts?

What do you use for bridge info along the way?

Folks can be more helpful when your trip basics are known.

Wish you the best on your first trip south and will add thoughts when able and can be helpful.

Greg.
