You're far better off to Google it then look at the CF threads that come up than trying to use CF's search.

Re: Help - Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico

I did the the trip from Muskogee to New Orleans last November in my Wauquiez Pretorien. October would have been better as it was a cold trip.

It was also a motor boat trip as my air draft is a bit over 56' so the mast was on deck.

Lots of hazards as would be expected. Navionics seemed to be fairly accurate in most places except Lake Dardenell in Arkansas.

I personally wouldn't do it again unless I had a shallow draft boat allowing more opportunities for anchorages. I never was stuck but did bump the bottom a handful of times.

Best advice I can give is plan your trip so you are not traveling at night due to The Barge traffic.

I think you would have had a much more enjoyable trip on the Tenn-Tom.

You can't get to the Tenn-Tom from Oklahoma without first transiting the Arkansas and going out of your way north up the Mississippi to Paducah and then back south... why would anyone do that?

It would be out of your way, although a pleasant one.

Re: Help - Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico

The lower Mississippi was not a miserable experience, in that it wouldn't be worth traveling up river to Kentucky lake to avoid it in my opinion. My point was a sailboat is less than ideal vessel for the trip. The atchfalya would probably be a better detour and break of the monotony of the big river.
