Oh, don't worry, they are out there. Once you get offshore and away from North America, you will find more than you can deal with. Be sure to carry a sturdy stick to beat them off.

Re: How to Explain to a Woman what Liveaboard Means ?

Don, I understand the dream, and I'm not saying to give it up. It is easy for sailors to fall in love with their boat. A boat is not a living thing, even though we believe it. After a year, or two of living the free life with a love (the boat) you can trust, you will find it is a one sided love affiar.
Many years ago I had a friend who loved to HOBO, and ride the rails. He was married, and had kids. He and his wife made a deal. He could HOBO three months a year. He has been married for fifty years. His HOBO days are past, and he and his wife still have a great marriage.
There are many ways to feel free. Maybe she might go for a three month a year deal, or a life in the wood, or high desert near a small town?
All dreams end...what then? To much of a dream turns sour.

So it ended sooner and ended well - this is fortunate.
As for female boaters in north America? There are now plenty of all ages due to the new sport of stand up paddle boarding.
Park the boat near a popular spot and they will come to you...
There are many others in the islands for a wealthy westerner!
Good luck.

I don't agree with Allezcat...he has a Job. He is not out there going around the world now?
Dan. is still looking for his first boat...he is in the Army. I can understand why he is dreaming of sailing around the world.
Part time well planned cruising is great. Full time...I could write a book about full time. It's not a good live style.

Don't agree about what?
Do you have any personal experience meeting women as a regular guy?
How about finishing a relationship without losing the boat?

Answer; Do you really want to know?

When I was first learning I was out with a friend who had recently had a heart attack. He said, "If I get sick, can you sail this boat?"

What was he, nuts? I said, "I can use the radio." He was really thinking that if he had another heart attack someone would have to sail him back to port. No -- all you have to do is reach search and rescue!

People should acquire skills as quickly as they can, but from that conversation I would say "Learn how to use the radio" as #1.

Re: How to Explain to a Woman what Liveaboard Means ?

I am not worried about finding a woman. I was premature about starting this one. But it showed me that if I wanted I could find someone. I know there are lots of woman out there, I also know that men my age, single, and a good risk are few and far between. I am NOT a wealthy man, but I have enough for me. An independent man of my age is always welcome where ever woman of my age gather. Until I am ready for another relationship I will live, love, laugh, and be happy.

I let her know, right from the start, who I was and where I was going, she had a different vision. And she didn't fit the original vision I had of her, so it worked out. That's all there was to it.

Is that like not knowing what side of the boat to wiz in a strong breeze?
If I had know that is how you feel about women, I would not have commented.
