I love the Volvo Ocean race

18 days, 5 hours and 21 minutes at sea, and only 1.4 nautical miles separate the top three boats!

Brilliant!

I am living on a diet of fingernails here.

Matt

Re: I love the Volvo Ocean race

We went out to watch the inshore racing in Singapore in 2009. Wickedly fast boats. We had to go to a skipper's briefing because we would be in close proximity.

Basically we were told do not try any evasive maneuvers if they appear to be headed at you. They know what they are doing. You can see from the photos how close we were and yes they were headed right at us...

What was amazing was how fast they accelerated after a gybe.

You lucky bugger! That looks like the original 70 footers, the fast ones! That must have been a brilliant day, and oh so close. What's the wind speed there, looks brisk?

Re: I love the Volvo Ocean race

It was the end of the northeast monsoon so I reckon between 18-20 kts. No too many white caps.

We have enjoyed their documentaries in the past, but now we get to follow week to week!
