I think it’s official (finally)

Welp…

I think I actually, finally, bought a yacht!!!

Had survey and sea trial over weekend. Read the report this morning. Let seller know I am ready to proceed.

Close in a few days. Downeaster 38.

I am pretty much a real life Captain Ron now…. Well, except with two eyes. And a haircut. And a real job.

There will be pictures. And questions… many questions.

We’re settling up this week. Insurance took effect at 12:01am.

Should have procession of her this weekend to start moving aboard for the trip home!

I had a Downeaster for a few years. Nice living space inside, tight space around the engine. If it does not have one yet I would put a day tank in. A 18 gallon tall skinny one fits on the starboard side in the back of the engine room if you move the hot water heater.

Where are you located?

Like a fuel day tank?
Any reason why that’s a suggestion? Does the same apply to other boats or just that specifically?

I have a 39ft boat with 2 tanks (one on each side) that hold just over 100g between the two. The previous owner redid the the fuel system completely, but no day tank.

My uncle has a trawler with 2 main tanks and a day tank, and said it was weird mine didn’t, but didn’t explain why and I kinda figured he was just poking fun of sailboats

Re: I think it’s official (finally)

The day tank fuel should be filtered coming out of the main tank. So if you have crud in the main tank it gets caught in the filter there. Overflow from the daytank goes back to the main tank. Keeping your day tank fuel polished. There should be a second filter between the day tank and the engine. I use a Racor 500 for both filters. Thus preventing an engine shutdown from dirty fuel.

The fuel tank on the Downeaster 38 is aluminum and under the sole. Next to impossible to clean. The only way to look in it was to pull the fuel tank sender.
Many of them are corroded from the outside of the tank or just a mess inside.

At least with the day tank you know you have clean fuel going to the engine.
