Re: Is Anyone Else Seeing Political Ads Pushed to Them On These Forums?

No political adds but a Home Depot 3/4 screen pop up comes on occasionally. It can’t be stopped or closed. I have to wait for it to clock out. If you try to do anything you loose whatever post you were writing. If you navigate away it’s waiting when you come back.

I've never seen such a thing. Not here, or anywhere else on the web. This is why I run ad and tracker blockers. It makes the whole web so much more pleasant.

Adblock seem to work fine. Stop me getting youtube ads as well.

Find it really hard not to use google drive etc though. I also have my company email hosted by google. It would be quite easy to not use any of these if you didn't have to collaborate with others on a daily basis but I find myself forced to use a lot of these things through work.

I get it. But there are other collaborative and cloud tools that aren't Google. Your company might have to pay for them, but they're lots out there.

This is the thing about these companies, and their so called "free" services. They get you hooked, and then you're stuck. They're really no different than drug pushers.

Mike,
Here is my Home Depot nightmare. So far no reaction from the CF geeks.

Google predicted text is based on what *others* have typed when using the same words you are using. Sometimes it seems everyone is searching that, other times the predictions fall into *who would type that?!?!

The problem is the ad companies serving inappropriate sized ads for the allocated space. In the upper right corner of most ads is a little symbol; click it and you can report an ad, and one of the report choices is "Ad covered content".

There's probably little CF can do about those, except double-check the allocated sizes, ad settings, then also complain to the ad server.

Can you tell me what sort of device you're browsing with an what operating system or are you using an app so we can dig into the issue?

That is incredibly annoying. I've never seen anything like it.

Run Adblock. It will clear them. You can also set your browser to not allow pop-ups, although that seems less effective these days.

I bet you shop, or at least look, at Homedepot online. Google is tracking you, and pushing these ads at you. It's less to do with CF (although they are allowing it) than your own personal browsing history. If you run Ghostery Google can't track you.

Check out "Brave" browser. Blocks annoying ads and tracking out of the box.
