Quite honestly, I shouldn't waste time replying to this, and certainly worry about the sanity of us all in participating in a rubbish sailing channel.
Hey! I ask you: what's wrong with tits and bums?!? I like them both! Or all three! Or however you want to count them dang it!

Re: La Vagabonde Contractory Stories

Many of the sailors who acquire media coverage are paid/or given free products to promote through sponsorships. Honest sailors are open about these sponsorships or other business relationships.

It's also common for freelance writers, writing for various nautical periodicals, to ask for free equipment for testing or other purposes. If a company says no, it may mean that the company will be omitted from an article, misrepresented or misquoted. It all depends on the integrity of the writer and the periodical.

I am with you...sex sells (always has, always will). Elena is cute. But I grew tired of their catamaran adventures.

I do reject some of of the more blatant ones...Lazy Gecko snd Sailing Miss Lonestar have fallen out of my watch list.

But how about Sailing Emerald Steel? Great couple, sailing a home-made steel gaff-rigged boat for 30 years! Susie is still hot in her 50’s, but the story is about their boat and their travels and the places they go.

Lots of good YouTube channels out there. I don’t feel bad about not sending them my hard earned money...that’s is part of the game.

If you don’t like them or their politics or whatever, don’t watch and don’t support them. No need to hate them...just ignore them and watch something else.

No shortage of free pr0n on the interwebs if that's your thing
No need to watch 10 minutes in the hope of a glance.

Re: La Vagabonde Contractory Stories

One of the greatest tales of sailing a small boat is Les Powles (Solitaire Spirit). He had little time for port drama because he sailed RTW 3 times. Would have been neat to have a YouTube feed on his boat. !

He said that nearly 5 years ago, when they had a paid-off boat. So a person isn't allowed to learn from experience and change their mind? So sports players making millions a year can get sponsorships, but a couple who worked hard to build a brand can't? Yeah, it comes off as jealousy.

Who cares? In the beginning it was a great Vlog, however, since the Cat they have gone 100% commercial. They are more about being a tourist info site now and promoting their baby!! I long ago dropped them and have looked at their video in months, too bad as she is VERY attractive.

that said, when I stop and think about this topic...
and believe me I have thought about it since I started watching a couple years ago....I'll admit to a twinge of jealously, but mostly I look on very impressed by them. I think that they...and others like them, have really figured out something that I frankly was either too dumb or too busy to see myself. Good for them!

I used to think getting a good job working for some employer, with great advancement potential and a good salary/benefits package was the "ideal". Work hard, work long hours, and try to keep the boss happy.....Pretty much what I've spent my life after college pursuing.
Some time ago I started to realize that being tied to a desk (or factory, or whatever) isn't really the ideal thing. Instead I thought it would be better to find a similar type position working the hours and doing the job, but with a work from anywhere &/or work on my own schedule kind of flexibility.

Now after seeing these folks live a permanent vacation lifestyle I've come to realize that a more passive income model might be the perfect thing....even if they are doing it on a limited budget....... but when I logged into their patreon account and figured even if every last patreon supported at the lowest level they are making a staggering amount more than I do with an engineering degree slugging through 40-60 hour weeks year after year.... granted, it surely has an expiration date for them and therefore their lifetime potential is therefore lower perhaps, but if they are smart enough to save, etc.... and with a bit of luck with health and so on, they should be able to do alright on vacation the rest of their life!

Too late for me probably, and I'm blinded in my old school paradigm and & I'm too close to retirement...but Yep, they have figured something out good. Good for them!
I think you hit some of the nail on the head there. I'm sure they realize their time in the spotlight is limited (though Delos is still going strong) and they're trying to make the most of it. If they get the boat paid off, and some savings they're in a pretty good spot. Not who I would donate to, not because I don't like them, but they seem to need it less than others. Heck, I'm worried about making my own boat payments.

I did like them more in the beginning. As soon as they got the cat, you could just see the effect of the stress on Riley of having to get out content, and feeling like they needed to increase subscriber count, and pander to YouTube algorithms. It was like it became a job to him, and I missed the relaxed feel of the earlier videos. I just didn't enjoy the new videos as much. I still think they're cool people, but that they feel like they have to put on more of a performance now.

Re: La Vagabonde Contractory Stories

Love La Vagabonde great product that I love watching. So many people around the world get such a good feeling watching their adventures. I have been watching their content for so long they seem like part of my family. Jealousy is such a curse and so so unattractive. I imagine they have leased the boat with a small balloon as this would have many tax advantages here in Australia. Love La Vagabonde drink deep from the cup of life people or know not the taste. be nice, be honest and worry about being a great human yourself rather spending time and energy trying to look for the worst in others look for the light in all.

Re: La Vagabonde Contractory Stories

MV__Grace - Serious mike drop on your comment. But you missed #3 - Apparently it's ok to like sailors and their channels until they aren't struggling and broke anymore, then "who do they think they are"? I've personally lived aboard, sailed across the Atlantic, and many countries...she's got more clothes on most of the time than any of my sailing experiences and honestly, as a woman myself, she seems just natural & comfortable. Comments insinuating its porn or intentional haven't lived on a boat obviously! And expecting that after years of hard work building content (videos) they wouldn't hire an editor when they can afford it is like saying I should still change the oil in my car...no thanks. I have never given them money but I think I will now, because I'm sure they don't want to do this forever...omg, what ******** they would be if they went and bought a house with a garden after this! I think its incredible they created an income out of letting us in on their sailing life...and no, I'm not an armchair sailor. I own a boat that I sail. They are entertaining to watch for me. If they are not your cup of tea why is it necessary to trash them? Question their integrity (ya, they are sooo bad..almost like Amazon....which we all still use btw). ****, real sailors I know are mostly semi-lazy, ADD cases who couldn't put together a decent half hour video in a week if their life depended on it. The fact is these guys busted their asses on a dream & a chance, with hard work they made it to financial success, not by selling timeshares, but running a video lab out of a boat - hard work. So maybe put on some Jimmy Buffet and chill the f out!

Re: La Vagabonde Contractory Stories

This is all pretty hilarious that people are complaining about commercialism of a YouTube Channel. Its entertainment that costs something to produce and the players involved do get income.

Do they think that all of the story on Gilligan's Island was real?
