Latest Requirements for Bringing a Sailboat into BC

Would appreciate anyone's insights re most recent requirements for bringing a sailboat into BC. (Have read previous posts re bringing US boat into Canada, but have some very specific queries here).
We (a couple of Canadian citizens/BC residents) are looking to purchase a UK-registered 40ft sailboat and bringing her back to BC, with the intention of "snowbirding" (ie Gulf Islands in summer, south in winter).
Not being UK residents, we can't maintain the UK registration. What would be required to do (or what is best option) to legally keep her in BC. Licence? Register?
What is current import duty % , and what taxes must be paid? Can any be deferred? We'd like to avoid any unnecessary expenses!
Thank you!

Greetings, there is some info on importing a vessel to Canada here:Importing marine pleasure craft

There are a couple of links there too on how to register your vessel as well.

Good Luck!

Re: Latest Requirements for Bringing a Sailboat into BC

We just imported a boat into Canada. Owners are residents of BC.

Import duty is 9.5% Boats built in North America or already imported into Canada do not pay the duty.

Provincial sales tax and Goods and Services Tax or HST (depends on province) are applied to the boat value + the duty. In BC there is a harminized sales tax of about 13%.

If you are Canadian but don't have residency in Canada it could be must different.

It all adds up very quickly
