Marina lockdown

Bangor marina, where I berth my boat, is closed in line with government advice. Does anyone know of any marinas that are still open?
Additionally, is anyone aware of any discounts being offered by marina operators for lack of access to marina facilities?
Regards Maurice Wilson.

Considered a mooring? If they're available?

Not sure I understand.

You can keep the boat there, right? I'd stay put.

Re: Marina lockdown

Sorry, my post wasn't entirely clear.
I can keep my boat in the marina, Indeed there are no alternatives, but I can't access my boat due to lockdown and my query was if anyone had been offered a discount on their berthing fees due to lack of access.
I hope that's clearer.
Regards, Maurice Wilson.

Undesirable, of course. But better than just anchoring out.

Re: Marina lockdown

It's fairly early in New England. Most marinas haven't opened yet. I keep my boat in the yard of the sister marina of where I have a slip for the summer. Both marinas are currently open.

A marina right down the road is open, but asking owners to not come down to work on their boats in the yard or come into the office.

It's easy to maintain social distancing in a marina. Don't touch other people's boats, don't let other people on or touch your boat.

Yes, very easy. Happens automatically almost all the time for me.

No on discount. But confused. If an owner cannot check on his/her vessel who confirms that all is well? Who accepts liability?

IMHO once or twice a week access should be allowed.

Re: Marina lockdown

State and local government recommendations vary widely. The marina where my boat is has closed the store but will do curbside delivery. They further ask that you keep your distance from all the yard crew. All services are still available. I have been prepping my boat all winter and I will be launched next week. The local yacht club has barred the access road and is not allowing anyone on the property. The two nearby marinas have closed shop for a couple weeks.
The interpretations to recommendations may be based on legal advice based on the litigious nature of some folks.

Re: Marina lockdown

The marina I most frequent in eastern Australia has locked the gates however it is only to keep non clients out. It's up a river with plenty of protected anchorages for those who want total isolation. I'd estimate that about 25% have exercised this option.

Re: Marina lockdown

Working on a boat in a boat yard or slip seems like effective social distancing.

Our marina remains "open" in that you can work on your boat in the yard or on the docks. Our attorney's reading of the Maine order suggests it doesn't specifically prohibit these activities, but that may be because it's a private club with no "customers" in the traditional sense.

It could be some marinas are interpreting the order to prohibit their boat storage "customers" from entering.

I'm not sure I blame them. All the parks and beaches around here were forced to close, too. Not because walking alone on the beach is dangerous. It's because hoards of out-of-staters were congregating on our beaches when their own states and cities were in lockdown.

It could be some marinas fear the same thing happening in their storage yards and on their docks.
