There were so many charter boat in Croatia who were not interested in getting to know us. We are heading back in mid-September and heading down to Corfu until spring. I’m hoping that after the busy season, I’ll be able to make the friends you all are able to cherish and enjoy. I guess my spreadsheet will sit ready to go!
Folks on a short charter vacation and not at all the same as cruisers. They have to pack as much activity into their short time aboard as possible, and that kinda interferes with casual friendships starting up.

Don't despair! When you get out of charter central, things will be different!

If you meet people on land easily you will also meet them while cruising easily.
I find coastal cruising a little different from travelling abroad. I find a stronger commaradery is established amongst the latter group due to shared problems, adventures and fears, a close community forms quite quickly.

Re: Meeting people while cruising...

I guess I'm the contrarian here, as I really enjoy my privacy at anchor.

I do wave back if someone waves when going by.

If we are in the tender, i will wave, say hi and stop if the person on board initiates the contact.

Shore side it's different! Friendly and complementary to the locals, cautious if around resort tourists. Never offer information about our cruising schedule, but if pressed, then give disinformation.

I think Meeting sailing cruisers ashore first is the best.

You don't intrude, get a sense of personality in a neutral space and if we hit it off, then an invitation for them to come over for drinks on board, is more heartfelt.

Yes, it's the fear and problems that bind people. The more $$$ they have the less problems but maybe the same fear...... and it can be real unfortunately.
